Micro Film Tour

Over the Summer we were lucky to work with Eastside Projects to tour some films in the neigbourhood.

We worked with Nechells Pod , Civic Square & Thimblemill Library to share 3 Films linked to Local Heritage and the Sports Heritage of the Commonwealth Game.

The Same Track, Tower of Dreams & Sporting Tower.

We will organise another event in the autumn, keep your eyes peeled and follow is on social media.

Come and join us for an evening to celebrate the screening of the Sporting Tower Films & Podcast "Amplifying Voices". The result of a project with young people of Ladywood and Birmingham responding to the Sports History of the Tower Ballroom Birmingham, at the Edgbaston Reservoir.

We dived into the history of this building that has graced Birmingham for almost two hundred years, hosted events by lots of different people, cultures & age groups. Soon to be demolished.

We asked ourselves, what did a space like this mean, and where can we connect and interact now across generations, different cultures, interests & age groups.

The evening will present two short films directed by Yonatan Tiruneh with an original Soundtrack by Mia Sugunasingha, based on research and workshops led by Janeel Brown in collaboration with a group of young creatives. And the first episode of our Podcast Series Amplifying Voices talking to people who used the Tower & the Reservoir and their ideas for the future.

There will be a panel discussion with the director Yonatan Tiruneh, Facilitator Janeel Brown & project lead Iris Bertz, chaired by Sarah Ali. Sarah is a British-Pakistani Photographer whose work has been exhibited widely in the UK. Her portraiture focusses on highlighting community voices from both near and far through the medium of film throughout her time at CIVIC SQUARE where she heads up the film club.
